Fresh & Local:

Boogie on the Bayou!

The Thursday Mid-City Market this week is going to be on fire! Or rather… water? Either way, come join us for the 2024 Bayou Boogaloo kick–off party! In addition to all your favorite Thursday vendors, Chef Shonda will be serving up fresh, southern bites at our cooking demo, and the Tulane Wellness Clinic will be tabling with info about their health programs. Since the kids loved it so much, we figured the adults would too - so we’ll have seed starter kits for anyone trying to tap into their green thumb! Come visit the programs table to get your hands dirty - and plan to grab a bite from our prepared food vendors - Paella NOLA, Que Pasta NOLA, Casa Borrega, Paw Paw’s Donuts, Micro Pharms, Latino Snacks, Sassy Cajun Spices and more!

We’re hosting the Friends of Bayou St. John in partnership with the Friends of Lafitte Greenway as they celebrate this weekend’s upcoming festival. With live music by the all female Bra’s Brass Band and an art market in the brake tag station, it’s sure to be a groovy afternoon. Hope to see you there!

GiveNOLA Thank You!

Thanks to the generosity and support of our community, Market Umbrella raised $8,251 this year for GiveNOLA Day! Market Umbrella is a small but mighty team, and these donations help us bring more families closer to fresh and local food. The market was buzzing! Shoutout to Chef Kim for winning the chopped challenge, and thanks to the Willow School students for visiting our vendors. Know any school administrators or teachers who would like to organize a field trip? Visit our Meet Me at the Market to learn more about how to participate in our local education program!

What’s in Season?

Website update! Check out the What’s in Season tab under Our Markets to see the local seasonality calendar. Crescent City Farmers Market vendors come to market from within a 200 mile radius of New Orleans. CCFM’s farmers represent the unique geographic and climate diversity of our region and we enjoy local food production 12 months a year. Cooking with the seasons is an exciting way to support local farmers and feel connected to our lovely earth.

Sweet Caroline

Two CCFM vendors got married on April 13th, and both of the brides are named Caroline! A coincidence that lovely, we had to share. Help us in congratulating Také Box and Slicey McSlicer Sharpening Service on their exciting nuptials! Be sure to visit Také at the Thursday Mid-City and Sunday City Park Markets, and Slicey at the Tuesday Uptown and Thursday Mid-City Markets.

Vendor of the Week:

Costantini Pasta

Say ciao to Costantini Pasta! With his father hailing from Abruzzo, Italy and his Irish mother’s talent for Italian cooking, Mike has known and enjoyed fresh pastas and sauces all his life. After graduating with a degree in IT, Mike quickly learned he wanted to do something with his hands and turned back to his love for cooking. Thus, Mike has spent the last 20 years cooking in restaurants and in 2022 started his own business, Costantini Pasta, making fresh, artisanal pasta and sauces. “I want to do stuff that’s healthy, flavorful, and has nice textures,” he says. Equipped with a pasta extruder, Mike makes his pasta using a combination of flours, predominantly semolina, along with heirloom grains from Barton Springs Mill in Texas. Most of Mike’s Pastas are vegan, and he is constantly adapting his recipes to offer the freshest ingredients and new, exciting pasta shapes.  Find Costantini Pasta at all three Markets with an ever-expanding selection of products. You will quickly discover the pastabilities are endless!

Recipe of the Week:

DIY Marinated Artichokes

Marinated artichokes are a great salad topping as the summer begins. Tangy and herby with a kick of citrus! You’re in luck - artichokes have hit the market with Perilloux Farms. Whether you learn to prepare your own artichokes or grab a jar from the store, you’ll finish off this recipe before you know it.
