Timmy Perilloux is back at Tuesday Market!

Mr. Timmy, a market favorite known for his larger-than-life produce, is back at the CCFM on Tuesdays! From the river parishes, Mr. Timmy lives and farms in Montz, Louisiana. While Timmy’s bountiful offerings are most certainly what he is known for in the market space, Timmy has also run the Perilloux Pumpkin Patch for more than 30 years! Just a 45-minute trip from New Orleans, you’re guaranteed to find the perfect jack-o-lantern candidate amongst his 15-acre patch. Get some groceries from Timmy at the market on Tuesday and visit his pumpkin patch this weekend. His patch is open from 9 am to 5 pm Saturday and Sunday––$9 per person includes a wagon ride and a pumpkin. Make sure to leave yourself some time to make it to our Halloween Market on Sunday the 30th!

Greaux the Good! Good for Farmers, Good for Families.

Greaux the Good is Louisiana’s new statewide Market Match incentive program that provides funding to support Louisiana farmers and families. It gives Louisiana farmers markets, farm stands, and other eligible entities the opportunity to create or expand a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FMNP) incentive program, providing additional shopping dollars for low-income shoppers. These programs increase both the number of shoppers at farmers markets and the purchasing power of low-income residents. Altogether, this grows the amount of fresh food consumed from local farmers. Vendor of the Week:

VEGGI Co-Op

Established in 2011, VEGGI Cooperative is a community-member-owned and operated farmer’s co-op based out of New Orleans East. VEGGI Co-op has proudly sold the produce and products of cooperatively-growing farmers in Village de L’Est, a Vietnamese-American community in New Orleans East, at markets throughout the city. As a result of the 2010 BP oil spill, many Vietnamese fisherfolk and shrimpers were left without work. VEGGI–Village de L’Est Green Growers Initiative––Farmers Cooperative grew out of this period of adversity with the mission of empowering growers in the Greater New Orleans area and creating sustainable, high-quality jobs in urban agriculture that enhance people’s quality of life by increasing local food access and knowledge of various green growing techniques, such as aquaponics and greenhouse technologies. One of the guiding philosophies of VEGGI Co-op is “from each according to ability and to each according to need.” Using this approach, they have been creating economic opportunities in urban agriculture for the Vietnamese community in New Orleans East. Most famously known for their freshly-made and locally-processed tofu, VEGGI Co-op also brings a rich array of other amazing products to their table including fresh in-season produce and herbs, chili oil, seed bars, and loofah sponges. There is something for everyone at the VEGGI Co-Op table!

Recipe of the Week:

Pan Fried Okra

There are so many ways to cook okra, but frying is one of the most common ways to prepare this delicious and versatile veggie. Pan-frying okra with cornmeal and a couple of spices creates a crispy and easy meal or side without using as much oil as deep-frying. If you have the time, make a quick dipping sauce for added deliciousness. Follow this few-ingredient recipe for pan-fried okra!
