“Greaux” With Us This Year! | November 21, 2022

Fresh & Local:

“Greaux” With Us This Year!

Earlier this year, we partnered with Big River Economic and Agricultural Development Alliance (BREADA) and New Orleans Food Policy Action Council (FPAC) to procure state funding for Louisiana farmers markets. The advocacy campaign was a success! The Louisiana Legislature appointed Market Umbrella to run Greaux the Good, a state-wide Market Match and FMNP match program which will bring increased sales for food producers and greater food access for families. To maintain our ability to deliver excellent programming here at home as well as aid markets across the state, your support is needed now more than ever!

Market Umbrella depends on contributions from generous donors like YOU to help keep our markets open; to host programs that empower vulnerable community members to afford and enjoy fresh, local food; and to provide technical assistance to CCFM vendors.

Please take a moment and consider donating to Market Umbrella. By doing so, you are contributing to the health of our local community, the prosperity of our regional economy, and the future of our food system. Give online today at marketumbrella.org, or on your cell phone by texting CCFM to 44-321.

We’re Cooking Up Something Sweet!

On Tuesday, November 22nd from 9am-12pm, stop by the programs tent for a cooking demonstration and tasting from one of our favorite local chefs, Chef Kim of KD NOLA Treats. She will also demonstrate how to properly prepare fresh butternut squash for your upcoming holiday meals. Bring your questions and your appetites! Come for the tasting and stay for the community!

Market Closed on November 24

There will be no market on Thursday, November 24, so come to the markets on Sunday, November 20, or Tuesday, November 22 to get your holiday grocery shopping done!

Nearing the End of FMNP!

Help Market Umbrella spread the word that FMNP cards expire at the end of November! Tokens, however, last forever! People with FMNP cards can exchange their $28 balance at markets and, one-time only, get a dollar-for-dollar match. Just in time for the holidays, come shop at Crescent City Farmers Markets to get leafy greens, farmhouse dairy, and newly-in-season cruciferous veggies–like broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage!

Vendor of the Week:

Joe Fekete Family Farm

Still planning and shopping for your holiday meals? Look no further! This time of year, Joe Fekete Family Farm’s table is full of beets, kale, mustard greens, turnips, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, eggplant, and heirloom tomatoes. Joe and his wife Margaret run Fekete Family Farm outside of Amite, Louisiana with the help of their kids, Jessica, Amanda, Sarah, and Nathan. After retiring from a career in education, Joe wanted to return to his roots and reconnect with the earth. Farming has allowed him to settle into his niche: playing in the dirt. By growing seasonal produce and embracing the cyclical nature of the land, Joe Fekete’s Family Farm helps to restore balance in nature and in his local community. Joe and his family feel thankful to be stewards of the land and to share the bounty with their valued CCFM customers! Find Joe Fekete Family Farm each week at our Tuesday Uptown market.
