Fresh & Local:

Let’s Get Together on Giving Tuesday!

Crescent City Farmers Markets happen and Market Umbrella exists thanks to the generosity and reciprocity of vendors, community partners, and customers. Our shared commitment to fresh, local food and community health enables us to continue the work we do. This year, we have continued to build foodway resiliency and fresh food access. In the midst of an economic recession, coming out of Hurricane Ida and COVID-19, your support and generosity means more to Market Umbrella than ever. This Giving Tuesday–November 29–please consider making a donation to Market Umbrella.

Your gift helps us build healthier, more equitable food systems, and your dollar makes a world of difference! Want to learn more about the programs you help support? Find us tabling at market tomorrow, the day of Giving Tuesday. You can make a donation at the market, by visiting our website, or on your phone by texting ‘CCFM’ to 44-321!

Vendor of the Week:

Star Nursery

Orange you glad it's citrus season?! Star Nursery is a fourth-generation, family-owned and operated citrus nursery and orchard. Dawn Camardelle, the owner and fourth-generation cultivator behind Star Nursery comes from a line of truck farmers turned citrus farmers. Her parents had the idea to expand in the late 60s and early 70s, using their savings to buy trees no bigger than a pencil. It was a slow start, but the family began budding and grafting trees, eventually growing into the bountiful orchard we enjoy today. Learn more about their planting practices by clicking here. Blueberries and veggies like garlic, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, and Dawn’s favorite - creole tomatoes - are also grown on the Belle Chasse farm, though their primary products are the citrus fruits and satsumas we enjoy October through January. Find Star Nursery’s satsumas and garlic at all of our markets throughout the week!
