Fresh & Local:

Holiday Market Closure Schedule

The holiday season is upon us! As a reminder, the Sunday City Park Market will be closed on December 25 and January 1 so that our vendors have a chance to rest, celebrate, and observe the holidays with their loved ones! Make sure to get your holiday shopping done at the Tuesday Uptown and Thursday Mid-City markets before or between the closures. Whether you need sweet potatoes for a pie, local meat for a hearty roast, or fresh greens for a side dish, CCFM markets have a lot to bring to your holiday table.

Not quite wrapped up with your holiday gift shopping? You’re in luck—CCFM has what you need and more! Take a look at our Updated 2022 Holiday Gift Guide, featuring over 30 gift offerings from CCFM vendors!

Unlimited Market Match is coming back!

This year, Market Umbrella matched SNAP purchases at market up to $60 through our Market Match program. In the New Year, we’re eliminating the limit! Starting January 1, 2023, Market Umbrella will offer unlimited dollar-for-dollar matches at all CCFM locations and participating partners, including Top Box Foods Louisiana Home Delivery, Grow Dat Youth Farm, and River Queen Greens. This means that people eligible for Market Match can take home even more fresh fruits and veggies! Something big is sprouting, so prepare for harvest season!

Vendor of the Week:

J&D Blueberry Farms

It’s stollen time! J&D Blueberry Farms is back for the holiday season with Stollen, a german loaf made with spices, nuts, rum-soaked raisins, and a coating of powdered sugar or almond paste. It’s traditionally eaten during the Christmas season and pairs great with a cup of coffee or hot tea; because of this, it makes a lovely holiday gift! Stop by any of our markets before the holidays to pick up your festive loaf from J&D Blueberry Farm, made using Captain Mueller’s famous recipe! Jeff and Don of J&D Blueberry Farm have been in the blueberry business since 2004! Today, J&D offers a variety of baked goods, jams and jellies, teas and cold drinks, fresh and frozen blueberries, and creamy fruit and yogurt popsicles. Come visit them at market!

Recipe of the Week:

Dill Pickle Kale Chips

Leafy, green, and rich in so many nutrients, kale is a superfood superstar when baked and seasoned! For an almost unbelievably quick and easy homemade snack, try crispy, oven-baked kale chips! Any type of kale works, whether curly or bumpy–just make sure you have enough for everyone! This recipe from Bites for Foodies adds fresh dill for a kick of freshness and flavor. Not a dill fan? No big dill; you can use any of the other herbs available at market, including but not limited to parsley, cilantro, and rosemary! We love this recipe with a fresh squeeze of lemon at the end. Make more than you think you need; as with any delicious snack, you need plenty!
